Mates’ main activity is open pit surface mining of lignite in mines it operates in Soma and Edirne and on various government licenses.

Mates has a lignite upgrading facility in Soma that can process 2500 tons per day and increase the calorific value of the treated coal by 30-40%.

Mates supplies lignite, imported hard coal and petcoke to power plants, industrial facilities, residences and public organizations all over Turkey while exporting these to nearby geographies like Eastern Europe.
